The Holy Bible: The Preserved Word of God

If God has spoken, nothing in the universe matters more than what He said — and whether we still have it. The Bible's own answer is glorious on both counts: God inspired every word, and God has preserved every word. A Bible inspired but lost would profit no one. Inspiration without preservation would be a river that dried up in the desert. But the promise of God covers both.

God inspired His Word — every word

The Scriptures did not rise from the will of man. God breathed them out, using holy men as His pens, so that what they wrote was not their word but His.

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." (2 Timothy 3:16)

And inspiration reaches to the very words — not merely the thoughts. The Lord Jesus Christ built arguments on a single word of Scripture, and even on the smallest letter:

"For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." (Matthew 5:18)

God promised to preserve His Word — for ever

The same God who gave His words pledged Himself to keep them — not for one generation, not in a museum, but for every generation, for ever.

"The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever." (Psalm 12:6-7)

"The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever." (Isaiah 40:8)

Kings have burned it, empires have banned it, critics have buried it a hundred times — and the Word of God has outlived every fire, every ban, and every grave-digger. It is settled where no hand can reach it:

"For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven." (Psalm 119:89)

Why we hold the King James Bible

If God preserved His Word, then His pure Word must exist somewhere a plain believer can hold it — not locked in scholars' vaults, endlessly revised and never settled. We receive the King James Bible (the Authorized Version) as that preserved Word of God in English: drawn from the faithful Hebrew and Greek texts handed down through the believing people of God, weighed by godly translators, and sealed by four centuries of fruit — souls saved, churches planted, revivals kindled, and martyrs comforted by its words. For our French readers, we stand on the Ostervald, translated from those same faithful texts.

Modern versions come and go, each correcting the last, subtracting words and casting doubt where God spoke plainly. But the Scripture warns against taking from or adding to His words, and faith needs a sure foundation, not a moving one.

"Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar." (Proverbs 30:5-6)

What the preserved Word does

This Book is not paper and ink only — it is living and powerful. It searches the heart, gives faith, gives the new birth, and gives light for every step.

"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword." (Hebrews 4:12)

"Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever." (1 Peter 1:23)

Hold it, read it, believe it, obey it. Heaven and earth will pass away; this Book will not.
