Who Is the Lord Jesus Christ?

No question in all the world matters more than this one. What a person thinks about the Lord Jesus Christ decides everything — for time and for eternity. The Bible gives a clear and glorious answer.

He is God manifest in the flesh

The Lord Jesus Christ is not merely a good man, a great teacher, or a prophet. He is God Himself, come down and clothed in human flesh. This is the very heart and mystery of the Christian faith.

"And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh." (1 Timothy 3:16)

Before ever the world was made, He was — the eternal Word, the Son of God, one with the Father. The Gospel of John opens with words no mere creature could ever bear:

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us." (John 1:1,14)

In Him dwells all the fulness of the Godhead; He is the express image of the invisible God. To see Him is to see the Father.

"For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." (Colossians 2:9)

He is truly man

Yet He who was very God became also very man — conceived of the Holy Ghost, born of a virgin, growing, hungering, weeping, and tempted in all points as we are, yet without sin. He became man so that He could stand in our place, for only a man could die for men, and only God could bear away the sin of the world.

"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." (1 Timothy 2:5)

He is the only Saviour

Because He is both God and man, sinless and spotless, He alone could pay the price of sin. He died on the cross, rose bodily from the grave, and lives for evermore. There is no other Saviour, no other name, no other way to God.

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6)

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)

What will you do with Him?

If the Lord Jesus Christ is truly God in the flesh, then He is worthy of all your trust, all your love, and all your life. He is not a Saviour to be added to a list of options; He is the Lord, before whom every knee shall one day bow. The wise soul bows now — in faith, and in worship — and receives Him as Saviour and Lord.
